JASON & THE ARGONAUTS (1963) - Ray Harryhausen Hand-Drawn Concept of Jason (Todd Armstrong) and the Skeletons
A hand-drawn concept sketch c. 1961 showing Jason (Todd Armstrong) and the skeleton warriors from the Don Chaffey fantasy-adventure Jason and the Argonauts. This piece shows one of the most famous scenes in the history of fantasy cinema, Jason and some of the Argonauts depicted doing battle with an army of skeletons. Harryhausen wanted the skeletons to have a sense of being an organised and well-drilled enemy, keeping them in strong formations. It is executed in pencil on paper vellum. The edges are irregularly cut, with minimal wear from production use.
